Orchard and UHS Bring Parents Together for Presentation by Dr. Lisa Damour

Last night, The Orchard School and University High School co-hosted an evening with Dr. Lisa Damour, focused on raising connected, capable, and compassionate adolescents. The event was held at University High School and attracted a sold-out crowd of parents and community members eager to hear from Dr. Damour, a renowned psychologist and New York Times bestselling author of Untangled, Under Pressure, and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers. Fun fact: Dr. Damour also serves as an advisor for Disney-Pixar's Inside Out 2!

Before the presentation, attendees enjoyed a VIP reception that allowed them to connect and share their thoughts on parenting. Dr. Damour's 45-minute talk was followed by a Q&A session where parents took notes throughout the presentation and asked thoughtful, personal questions. They engaged with Dr. Damour’s insights and even shared a few laughs as she included a few Taylor Swift Easter eggs—a fun nod to the other sold-out event happening in Indianapolis this weekend, reminding everyone that meaningful connections will never go out of style 😉.

Speaking of connections, thanks to our partnership with Golden Hour Bookstore, owned by Orchard parents, attendees had the opportunity to purchase books and get them signed by Dr. Damour.

We were thrilled to provide this parent education opportunity and look forward to more events where we can come together with a shared vision to support the kids in our care. Interim Head of School Ed Hollinger reflected, “With a mix of honesty, humor, and hope, Dr. Damour challenged us to be our best selves as parents and educators. Her insights encouraged us to be present without hovering, to give guidance with choices, and to set boundaries without dictates. It was an evening well spent, and I’m grateful to Dr. Damour for sharing the evening with us.”
