French Cuisine Brings The Invention of Hugo Cabret to Life for Orchard Fourth Graders

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is a beautifully illustrated novel set in a 1930s Paris train station. Hugo, a young orphan, unravels the mystery of a broken automaton left by his father. Across the fourth grade, students have been immersing themselves in French culture. Classrooms have transformed to reflect the novel’s setting, and students have sampled various French foods. On Monday, March 10, former French residents Michèle and Vicki Douar gave a special presentation and treated students to escargot, bringing their literary journey to life!

A big thank you to Vanessa Bertoni-McElroy for generously donating all the food and for coordinating with Michèle to make this experience unforgettable for our students!
