Early Childhood students recently celebrated 100 days of school, a big milestone that helped bring the number 100 to life through hands-on activities, movement, and a special visit from a superhero.
Preschool: Understanding 100
For preschoolers, 100 is an abstract concept—it can feel like an impossible number to grasp. To help build their understanding, students used ten frames to count out 100 pieces of cereal, practicing one-to-one correspondence while further developing a sense of quantity. The day also included snacks, crafts, and a special “I Wish for 100…” activity, where students shared creative (and hilarious) ideas like 100 pancakes or 100 unicorn parties.
Pre-K: Engaging with 100 in Different Ways
Pre-K students explored 100 through counting, movement, and patterns. They made sticker collections, decorated crowns, and counted to 100 together. They even took on the challenge of jumping for 100 seconds and tested their patience by seeing if they could freeze and stay quiet for 100 seconds. And, for a little extra fun, they walked 100 steps from their classroom and ended up in the second-grade hallway!
Kindergarten: Meeting Zero the Hero and the Kindy 100
Kindergarteners have been receiving letters from Zero the Hero on days ending in zero, building excitement throughout the year. On the 100th day, they finally met Zero the Hero in person—thank you to alumna Lily C. (Class of 2024) for bringing the character to life in the morning before heading off to University High School.
The celebration continued with 5th-grade Special Friends helping make 100th-day necklaces, followed by a fun workout where students completed sets of ten exercises, counting by tens all the way to 100. The day wrapped up with the highly anticipated Kindy 100, where students designed and built their own race cars at home, paraded through the school, and took a final lap around The Green, cheered on by their families.
100 Days of Learning & Growing in Early Childhood at The Orchard School
Through math, movement, and hands-on activities, the 100th day of school provided a chance to make learning fun while reinforcing important skills. The joy of learning is woven into many lessons, and Orchard teachers create space for curiosity and discovery while ensuring students build a strong foundation. When kids are excited about what they’re doing, learning happens naturally. Here’s to the next 100 days!
And a big shoutout to Orchard's Early Childhood team for making every day full of learning, laughter, and a little bit of magic!
