The Position

Provides vision and leadership for developing and implementing technology initiatives. Coordinates with faculty and administrative staff to implement information systems to support Orchard’s growth and strategic objectives. Emphasis on technology usage to achieve best possible teaching and learning environment. This role includes oversight of staff, with direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Provides an overall framework and support for IT (architecture, standards, policies and procedures) for both instructional and administrative needs including supervision of Technology team members.
  • Sets priorities and allocates resources (with approval of the Director of Operations) to best serve Orchard’s IT needs including researching and recommending hardware, software, cameras, projectors, peripheral equipment, network hardware and telephone equipment; writing purchase orders and coordinating with the business office regarding invoices and packing slips.
  • Coordinates the recommendation and placement of computer hardware and software in classrooms and offices; maintenance of electronic database of existing equipment through the library information system (coordinates with library/media specialist).
  • Coordinates copier and telephone contracts and maintenance.
  • Serves as back-up systems and server administrator including assisting with the maintenance and administration of Orchard’s business and email servers.
  • Serves on Building and Grounds Committee with special emphasis on developing future technology needs including infrastructure planning and implementation.
  • Works with an area-wide independent school technology coalition interested in finding cost savings with technology hardware, software and services.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots the faculty and staff phone/voicemail system, keycard system and email system, including changes to all school email groupings as necessary.
  • Provides, trains and troubleshoots new employees with the following: email address, voicemail, computer and keycard.
  • Establishes and troubleshoots parent email accounts and other parent technology issues.
  • Provides technology training and support to faculty and staff.
  • Documents policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer to develop/maintain Orchard’s Business Continuity Plan, inclusive of conducting regular tabletop exercises across the organization.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • BS or BA in Technology or related field experience
  • Apple and PC experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT related field
  • Minimum of 1–2 Years Supervisory experience
  • Experience with Blackbaud system preferred
