Founders Day Fun, Rosh Hashanah, and Spirit & Philanthropy Week Celebrations
Today, we’re celebrating 102 years of The Orchard School! Our nine founding mothers set the vision, and it continues to thrive thanks to the committed community. To honor them, parents and guardians will receive a sunflower in the drop-off line on Friday morning. This ties into a tradition started by Outdoor Education Coordinator Mrs. P, who planted the “Nine Mothers Sunflower Garden” during our Centennial year. Students have already enjoyed the garden for everything from art projects to science lessons and mindfulness breaks.
This morning at the all-school assembly, our third graders did an awesome job with their fun and creative presentation about Orchard’s history. We also learned a little bit about Rosh Hashanah from some of our students and staff member Sally Doehrman, just in time for the holiday starting this week. They shared the tradition of blowing the shofar and talked about the symbolic foods they eat, like apples dipped in honey, to celebrate the Jewish New Year and bring our community closer together through shared traditions!
This week is also Philanthropy Week, which kicked off alongside Spirit Week for some extra fun! Seventh-grade social studies teacher Kathleen Cliff and the Student Leadership Club have organized a lineup of themed days, including Country Western Day, Green & Gold Day, Anything But a Backpack Day (today - photos below), Jersey Day, and Beach Day. It’s been a great way to show off our school spirit!
This week perfectly highlights what makes Orchard special: a strong community, meaningful connections, and a shared commitment. To make sure Orchard’s legacy continues for future generations, we invite you to show your support and help keep our traditions going strong!
