We are asking you, as parents and grandparents of the class of 2018, to join us in giving a gift to create a lasting legacy that will be cherished by students for years.
Four families have kicked off this legacy gift by committing a total of $10,000 to purchase a piece of equipment for the new Middle School playground as part of Orchard's Capital Campaign. We are challenging the other 8th grade parents and grandparents to match that amount for a total of $20,000. To do so, we need your help!
Donations large and small will be much appreciated. Please join us in celebrating the Class of 2018!
Depending on how much the class raises, the students will be able to pick which playground elements they would like to "give" to Orchard. Here are a few photos of what the new Orchard Middle School playground might look like.
8' Slide and Rock Scramble with Sand Play Area $25,000
It offers constant thrills of movement and speed while encouraging scientific curiosity, triggering proprioceptive and kinesthetic responses and developing motor skills and coordination.
Tree Deck with Climbing Features $25,000
This Tree Deck will be built around a tree that will provide a large shade leafy "roof" over the deck. Tree decks essentially put children "in the tree" so they get to see the tree canopy up close and to see the different insects that live in the bark above the ground, and the birds that fly into and nest in the canopy.
Game Table with Rock Seats $5,000 Each
Game Tables are great places for children to be quiet outside, and to have fun drawing with each other, playing Mancala, playing chess, reading, or even having a picnic!
Ga-Ga Pit $10,000
Also known as Octo-Ball and Panda Ball, Ga-Ga is played in a large octagon called the Ga-Ga pit. The object is to hit, or slap, the ball (not throw it) into another player's leg. It must hit at the knee or below to get someone out.
