Orchard Parents Help Students Learn About Diwali
Last week, Orchard parents helped second and third grade students learn about and celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. This holiday celebrates a time where Good wins over Evil and Light shines over Darkness. Our awesome parents spoke about the meaning behind the holiday and shared details about the special clothing, diyas (homemade clay candles made by one of our parents), mandalas, and more.
To close the celebration, singer-songwriter and composer Anita Lerche (also an Orchard parent) led us in a community dance. Lerche was the first non-Asian female artist from the West to release an album in Punjabi.
